Program Basics
This program is uniquely designed in an accelerated online delivery course format that emphasizes professional development opportunities for those who have an interest in developing their knowledge and skills in the higher education concentration. Drawing from the expertise of professional faculty with varied expertise in higher education and post-secondary education levels, these programs will support continuous learning, training, and networking with professionals and peers for collaboration to gain professional knowledge, essential for career advancement
Course Student Learning Outcomes/Standard
- Identify key terms and current issues, concepts, positions, principles, and structures associated with leadership and governance in higher education.
- Examine the major administrative units (and organizational structure) at higher education institutions and compare the opportunities and challenges within each unit.
- Analyze the theoretical constructs that frame administrative work and leadership at institutions of higher education. Use these constructs in college administrative processes.
- Articulate how governance is implemented at various institution types, including those that often escape notice by researchers and the media yet educate large proportions of historically marginalized students (e.g., Community and Technical Colleges, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), Regional Comprehensive Public Universities (RCUs).
- Assess the political and financial relationship between selected higher education institutions and their state/federal legislatures. Recognize the implications these relationships have on administrative functions and decision-making.
- Develop individualized skills, knowledge, dispositions, and leadership styles that promote effective governance while working at higher education institutions.
This program is designed for early-career faculty and staff who have an interest in pursuing leadership opportunities in two and four-year colleges and universities.

A completed application should include the graduate application, transcripts, personal statement and at least three (3) letters of recommendation.

- Pay a $30 application fee
- Application review by Graduate Studies and program faculty
- Once all documents are submitted, we request 10 business days for departments to review the application packet and respond.
- Admission decision notification
- Applicants will receive a notification letter with information regarding their admission status via their personal email. If admitted, this letter will include information regarding their student ID and University e-mail.
